What an exciting Festival weekend! Were you there for the fun or did you miss out? Over 500 dancers attended the 54th Annual Festival weekend.
The Texas State Callers Association hosted a fun and lively Trails End Dance. The Brazos room of the Waco Convention Center was full of dancers. What a great "opening night" for festival. Celebrity callers Brad Caldwell, K.O. Jeanes, Wade Driver and Wayne Weston really had the dancers on their toes. Brad Caldwell was also the cuer for the evening. K.O. Jeanes was the winner of Caller Idol III. Be sure to ask K.O. to model his crown. Other contestants were Wade Driver and Wayne Weston. Great singing guys!
Pre-Festival on Friday was a lot of fun. Wade Driver, Bob Baier, K.O. Jeanes and Mark Prow called and cued a great dance. The Parade of Stars was a lot of fun. Celebrities seen in the parade and on the dance floor included Judy Garland as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, Debbie Reynolds, Mae West, Jackie Gleason, John Wayne and many others. The night ended with dancing on the old Brazos River Bridge.
Festival Saturday began with dancing and the three panels. The fashion show was a delight. Nivia Wilson, Golden Gulf Coast SRDA, modeled the dress she wore in the TSFSRD 25th fashion show in 1987. (Wow – they both looked great.) The Andrews Sisters (aka Debbie Verhoef, Jessica Barnes and Rachel Barnes) performed Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. Stu Ringer wowed everyone with his rendition of "Ole Man River" (from "Show Boat") and "Mariah" (from "Paint Your Wagon"). Ten Teen Scholarships were awarded during the opening ceremonies. The 2016-2017 TSFSRD officers were also introduced during the opening ceremonies. Everyone danced all afternoon and evening until their feet cried "no more!"
Sunday morning after devotional and the business meeting good-byes were said and dancers returned home to rest and dream of Festival 2017. 2017 Festival will be hosted by Red River Valley SRDA in Wichita Falls where we'll "Deck – uh Dance – the Halls in Wichita Falls June 8-11.

Are you ready for Festival? It's almost time only 4 more days until the beginning with the Trails End Dance on June 16.
It wouldn't be a road trip if you didn't find road construction and slow traffic. Lewis and Marilyn Chumbley and Phil and Janet Abel report that the I-35 road construction has reached Waco. A handy website to help with road issues is www.drivetexas.org . Lewis has this to say:
Construction on I-35 has reached Waco. We were in Waco a couple of weeks ago, and ran into a big traffic delay between the Comfort Suites Hotel and the Waco Convention Center caused by construction on I-35. I'm not sure how many of you are staying at the Comfort Suites or Hampton Inn, but you may want to avoid I-35. I have attached a map and directions on how to get to the WCC and back from Comfort Suites without travelling on I-35. You may want to print this off and keep it handy. I plan to bring copies to leave at Comfort Suites. Feel free to share this with any of your friends."
